Police Searching For Missing Scarsdale Teen
SCARSDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Westchester are searching for a missing teen who hasn't been seen since last week.
Christine Ji Woo Kang, 16, disappeared from her home at 12 Robin Hill Road in Scarsdale around 8:30 p.m. Friday after getting into an argument with her parents, police said.
Kang is 5'6" tall and weighs around 120 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair.
The Edgemont High School junior was last seen wearing a mint green flannel shirt, white pajama pants with a pink and green snowflake design and UGG boots, CBS2's Valerie Castro reported.
She left her home without a cell phone, money or jacket, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.
Police said Kang has left home under similar circumstances in the past, but has always returned a short time later.
"There's been a history where the young lady has left the residence under similar circumstances but has always returned home," Police Capt. Brian Ryan said
She did not show up for school Monday morning, police said.
"This is the first time that she's not returned within that short period of time and obviously the parents are very, very concerned," Capt. Ryan said. "The weather as you know...is changing, becoming much colder and we're very concerned if she's out in the elements there's an obvious inherent risk with that."
Despite the weather Kang left without a coat. Once 24 hours had passed her parents called police.
Police searched the neighborhood with K-9 units over the weekend and expanded the effort Monday to include an aerial search.
"I just can't imagine where she would be for this long," neighbor Richard Klein told Haskell. "My initial thought was she's probably at a friend's house but it's been a few days now and everyone's greatly concerned."
"Honestly, I don't know what to think. It's terrible and I hope she's OK and I hope she comes home OK," neighbor Debbie Schenfeld said.
Edgemont Union Free School District Superintendent Victoria Kniewel issued a statement saying, "Our hearts go out to Christine's family and to the entire Edgemont family as we work together with the Greenburgh police department for Christine's safe return."
Counselors are on hand at the school for students.
A woman at the Kang house declined to answer questions about the situation, Haskell reported.
Anyone with information on where she might be is asked to call Greenburgh police at 914-989-1700.
