Police Search For Suspect Who Punched Man, Took His Cellphone In Bronx Store

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A search was under way Saturday for a suspect who punched a man in the face in a Bronx cellphone store before stealing the victim's cellphone.

Around 3:20 p.m. Monday, the suspect walked into the Simple Mobile store at 1175 Webster Ave. in the Fleetwood-Concourse Village section of the Bronx, police said.

He walked up to the counter and punched the 22-year-old victim in the face, and grabbed his cellphone, police said.

The victim chased the suspect out of the store, but ended up losing him as he fled south on Webster Avenue, police said. The victim refused medical attention.

Police did not indicate whether the victim was a customer at the store or a staff member.

The suspect was described as a black male standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a black coat, green pants and black boots.

Police have released surveillance photo of the suspect.
