Police Search For Masked Gunman In Englewood Bank Robbery
ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in New Jersey are investigating an early morning bank robbery in Englewood.
"We cannot identify the person as of yet. My understanding, he was wearing a ski mask, dark clothing, and his hands were covered up," Englewood Police Chief, Lawrence Suffern said.
The incident occurred at the Valley National Bank on South Dean Street around 8 a.m. Monday.
According to witnesses, an employee was opening up the bank when he was confronted by a masked man who was wearing gloves and carrying a handgun, CBS 2's John Slattery reported.
The suspect brandished a handgun and commanded both of the employees to open the vault before he tied them up.
"He forced the two employees back into the vault area at which point he removed approximately $66,000 in cash," Chief Suffern said.
Police converged on the scene with a K-9 unit but were unsuccessful in tracking the suspect. Investigators asked employees at a nearby restaurant if they had seen the robber get away but nobody had seen a thing.
He was described only as 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9 and wearing a leather jacket, black wool cap, black gloves, and black suede shoes Slattery reported.
No injuries were reported.
Police and the FBI plan to review surveillance footage to determine whether the robber is suspected in any other bank heists.
