Police Arrest Handcuffed Teen Who Escaped Custody In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 18-year-old who managed to escape police custody in Brooklyn was back behind bars Wednesday evening.

The late-afternoon search was concentrated near the Sterling Street subway station on the Nostrand Avenue line in Crown Heights.

Police say Franklyn King-Lindsay was in the 71st Precinct near the corner of  New York Avenue and Empire Boulevard after being arrested for assault when he allegedly slipped away from officers and fled on foot into the subway.

King-Lindsay was handcuffed on both hands at the time of the escape, sources tell CBS2.

The Nos. 2 and 5 trains briefly bypassed Sterling Street in both directions as police searched for the escapee, who was brought back to the 71st Precinct upon his capture in a nearby laundromat around 7:30 p.m.

King-Lindsay was initially arrested on assault and criminal mischief charges but after his afternoon stunt, a charge of escape has been added to the list.
