Police Release Photo Of Driver Wanted In NJ Hit-And-Run That Injured Brothers

NORTH BERGEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Police have released a picture of the driver wanted in a hit-and-run crash that left two brothers severely injured in North Bergen.

The Hudson County Sheriff's Office and the U.S. Marshals Service are looking for Rogelio Chavix-Tacen, who was last seen in Fairview.

Chavix-Tacen had purchased tickets to return to his native Guatemala but never boarded the plane, authorities said.

The Record newspaper reports authorities say he is believed to be traveling by car or using mass transit.

Chavix-Tacen was driving an SUV that struck 20-year-old Michael Viruet and his 11-year-old brother, Adrian, on Nov. 14, authorities said. The brothers had just seen a movie and were walking toward a pedestrian bridge when the vehicle jumped a curb.

One of Michael Viruet's legs had to be amputated.

Chavix-Tacen faces charges of aggravated vehicular assault and leaving the scene of an accident.
