Police Nab 4 Suspects In Paramus Home Invasion
PARAMUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police have taken four people into custody following a home invasion in Paramus on Wednesday.
As CBS 2's Christine Sloan reported, a 67-year-old man who lived inside the house was tied up and robbed.
The victim, whom is being interviewed by police, was still startled Wednesday evening by what happened to him just after noon inside his home, a neighbor told Sloan.
"All of a sudden, I hear the (door) bell ringing 'bing bing bing,' and I ran to the door and I see Frank," said Joseph Classi, the victim's neighbor. "I knew something was wrong because he was running up and back."
"He said, 'Can I please use your phone? I was robbed," Classi said.
According to Classi, the victim said a woman rang his doorbell, and when he looked outside, he saw a red van and then three male suspects smashed the rear glass door of his house on Mill Run.
"They broke the back door with the flower pot," Classi said.
"He wasn't hurt," the neighbor added. "They tied him up with the telephone cord -- his legs and his hands. He says, 'They didn't do a good job, so I was able to get out.'"
The suspects then ransacked several rooms in the home before fleeing, police said.
Police captured four suspects in Teaneck about 40 minutes later after a foot chase through backyards and on Route 4, Sloan reported. They were apparently pulled over in the suburban neighborhood after police sent out a description matching the red Dodge Caravan they were traveling in.
The house where the robbery occurred was surrounded by yellow crime tape Wednesday evening, Sloan reported. Investigators were taken photos from the crime scene.
