Police: Manhattan Home Invasion Suspect Attacked 2 Elderly Women

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A 75-year-old woman and a 78-year-old woman were injured during a home invasion turned robbery in Manhattan Saturday.

Police told 1010 WINS the suspect gained entry to the apartment on West 57th Street and Ninth Avenue through an unlocked door of the fifth-floor balcony.

The man was in the process of robbing the home when one of the women screamed, police said. The suspect then knocked both women to the ground, kicked one of them in the face and stole her wallet, 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported.

"They're sweet and they're vulnerable," said neighbor Ray.

Both women were taken to a local hospital. One of the victims suffered bruises to her face and the other woman sustained bruises on her arm, police said.

Police said the suspect got away with $270. So far, no arrests have been made.
