Police: Man Fell Off Forklift, Died At Center Moriches Greenhouse
CENTER MORICHES, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Police on Long Island were investigating Tuesday night, after a man fell off a forklift, hit his head and died at a greenhouse in Center Moriches.
Santos Ortiz, 37, was working a forklift at Kurt Weiss Greenhouses, at 95 Montauk Highway in Center Moriches, when he lost control of the vehicle, hit his head on a metal post, and fell to the ground around 6:10 p.m., Suffolk County police said.
Ortiz, of Mastic Beach, was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of his death, police said.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also notified, police said.
