Police: Man Caught After Allegedly Firing At Queens Club Bouncer
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police caught a man this week after he allegedly fired shots at bouncers who refused to let him back into a Long Island City, Queens nightclub.
The suspect was also allegedly carrying an assortment of drugs in his car, from crystal meth to Xanax, police said.
Around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aaron Dockery, 29, and a friend, were kicked out of Club Lit, at 35-35 Steinway St. in Queens, for acting belligerently, police said.
Dockery reportedly asked the bouncers if he could go back in so long as his friend did not, but the bouncers said no, police said.
With that, Dockery "loudly and vehemently threatened" to shoot up the club, police alleged. He then ran across the street to the P.C. Richard & Son parking lot where his 2010 Dodge Charger was parked, and took out a Taurus 9mm semiautomatic handgun, police said.
He fired one round from the black-and-silver weapon and ran off – clutching the pistol in his sweat shirt pocket, police said. But once he got back to his car, two uniformed police officers were already there waiting for him, police said.
After noticing officers Lucas McDonald and James Nostramo of the 114th Precinct, Dockery quickly hightailed it the other way down Steinway Street to 36th Avenue, police said. Nostramo chased him down the street and saw him throw the gun under a parked car, police said.
McDonald followed just behind them in a marked squad car, and they caught Dockery steps later, police said. The gun was recovered and had five bullets inside, one of them ready to fire in its chamber, police said.
In the car, a bag of crack cocaine and two rounds of ammunition were in view in the wide open glove compartment, police said. After Dockery was arrested, police found more cocaine, crystal meth, and about 6,550 yellow and white Xanax pills, police said.
Dockery, who was carrying $2,200 cash when he was arrested, was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and a loaded firearm, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration, police said.
An apparent friend of Dockery's – David Torres, 38, of Hempstead – was also arrested after trying to get into Dockery's car when police were watching over it, police said. He was charged with hindering prosecution, tampering with physical evidence, obstructing governmental administration, and unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.
Police were searching Friday night for a third man, 24 years old and from Hempstead, who was sitting in Dockery's car when Dockery allegedly came for the gun but ran off while police chased Dockery, police said.
