Police: L.I. Mom Faces Charges After Being Found Passed Out In Hot Car With Child, Heroin

LEVITTOWN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island woman is under arrest after police said she was found in possession of heroin and passed out in a hot car while her infant boy sat sweating in the backseat.

Officers found Jessica Rosengart, 28, of St. James semi-conscious and slumped over inside a 2013 Dodge Dart in a Hempstead Turnpike parking lot in Levittown Monday afternoon, Nassau County police said. The car was locked and the windows were closed.

Her child was in a car seat moving around and sweating profusely, police said.

Police knocked on the window repeatedly before Rosengart opened the door for them.

Police said at the time of her arrest, Rosengart was in possession of a hypodermic needle and three glassine bags of heroin.

The drugs and Rosengart's unsupervised contact with the child violated a previous order of protection issued by a court, CBS 2 reported.

Rosengart is charged with reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal contempt.

The baby was treated at a hospital for heat exhaustion and was held overnight for observation.
