Man Stabbed Multiple Times On Subway Platform In Chelsea
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are investigating after a man was stabbed multiple times Wednesday morning on a subway platform in Manhattan.
It happened in Chelsea around 5:30 a.m. on the southbound No. 1 train platform at 18th Street and Seventh Avenue.
According to authorities, the victim, who is in his 50s, was stabbed during a dispute with a group of men. The victim then managed to make his way up the street before collapsing.
Witness Dave Kucera said he found the man bleeding on Seventh Avenue.
"He pulled off his shirt and saw a couple of stab wounds in his belly and ran over at that point to get a taxi to call the police," Kucera told CBS 2.
Kucera stayed with him until help arrived. The victim said he thought he was going to die.
"I said, 'you're not going to die tonight, pal. You're OK. You're going to be OK,'" Kucera told 1010 WINS' Juliet Papa.
Kucera said he tried his best to comfort the man.
"I sat with him for quite a while," Kucera said. "It was quite a shock."
Kucera and a second witness were questioned as part of the investigation, CBS 2's Don Champion reported.
The man was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
So far, no arrests have been made and police are searching for suspects.
As a result of the investigation, southbound 1 trains are bypassing 18th Street. The MTA says riders should allow for additional travel time. For more information, click here.
