Police Follow Footprints In Snow To Catch Alleged Long Island Dunkin' Donuts Robber
MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A man was arraigned Friday in the robbery of a Dunkin' Donuts in Massapequa, and police said they followed a trail of footprints in the snow to find him.
Around 4:30 a.m. Thursday, a 25-year-old woman was working at the Dunkin' Donuts at 1000 Carmans Rd. in Massapequa when a man walked in and asked for a doughnut, Nassau County police said.
The man tried to pay for the doughnut with a debit or credit card, which was declined, police said. At that point, the man pulled out a handgun and demanded money, police said.
The woman handed over money, and the man fled the scene toward Carmans Road, police said.
After receiving a description of the suspect, police noticed a single set of fresh footprints in the snow, which was falling violently at the time as the Thursday nor'easter pounded the area. The trail ended at a home on Park Lane, where Victor Fabian, 21, was arrested.
Police found the debit or credit card Fabian allegedly tried to use to buy the doughnut, along with a glass pipe with what appeared to be marijuana, and a pill that was believed to be oxycodone.
Fabian was charged with robbery, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal use of a firearm.
He was arraigned Friday in Nassau County First District Court in Hempstead.
