Police arrest Rasheen Davis, 39, following last week's attempted rape in Harlem

Police arrest suspect in Harlem in attempted rape, murder

NEW YORK - A nearly five day search for a 39-year-old man accused of trying to rape a Harlem woman has ended.

Police say Rasheen Davis, 39, was taken into custody Wednesday morning near the fifth precinct without any problems.

For days, though, neighbors have been on edge after a brazen attack last Friday, just before midnight.

According to police, that's when Davis approached a 43-year-old woman from behind and punched her in the head, knocking her to the ground near Lenox Avenue and Adam Clayton Boulevard. Investigators say Davis then dragged the woman between two parked cars, took her clothes off, and then tried to rape her.

The victim was able to get away but had serious injuries and was taken to the hospital with severe head trauma. She was last reported to be in critical condition.

Police say Davis had 11 prior arrests and was on parole for a knifepoint robbery in 2020.

Davis faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, attempted rape, and robbery.
