Police: 3 Injured In Early Morning Brooklyn Crash

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Three people were injured in an early morning crash in Brooklyn Sunday.

The driver of a 2013 Acura slammed into a tree on Ocean Parkway between Avenue O and Avenue P in the Midwood section of Brooklyn at around 3:30 a.m., police said.

The force of the impact was so great that the car wrapped completely around the tree, CBS 2's Janelle Burrell reported.

According to officials, the driver was heading northbound on the parkway and was possibly trying to make a turn when he lost control of the vehicle.

Police said a 21-year-old passenger in the front seat of the car was in critical condition with head trauma at Kings County Hospital. The 24-year-old driver and a 20-year-old passenger were listed in stable condition at Lutheran Medical Center, 1010 WINS reported.

Residents in the area told Burrell the sound of the crash woke them up in the night.

One witness said Good Samaritans jumped in to help.

"Two guys opened one door and pulled one guy and he complained 'my back, my back.' And maybe 5 minutes and the cops came by with the ambulance," she said.

Police said it took firefighters about 20 minutes to pull the other two victims from the wreckage, Burrell reported. Fire crews needed to cut open part of the car in order to make the rescues.
