Police: 3 Coworkers Save LI Man After Potentially Fatal Electric Shock

YAPHANK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- A Long Island man nearly died of electrocution while repairing a machine Friday morning.

Suffolk County Police said three of the man's coworkers saved his life.

Police said the 47-year-old man was trying to repair a machine at Hi-Temp Specialty Metals on Patchogue-Yaphank Road around 9:45 a.m. when he was hit with a potentially fatal electric shock.

The man stopped breathing and three coworkers, identified by police as John Stanislaw, Manju Mathew and Joe Smokovich, quickly performed CPR and utilized an Automatic External Defibrillator.

The man was revived and taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue in stable condition, police said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified about the incident, police said.
