Police: 2 Men Arrested, Suspected Of At Least A Dozen Home Burglaries In Northern NJ

HACKENSACK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) - Two northern New Jersey men suspected in the burglaries of at least a dozen homes in Essex, Passaic and Bergen counties have been arrested.

Daniel Gomez and Julio Ponce were arrested Tuesday in Englewood after Bergen County Prosecutor's Office detectives and local police followed them as they allegedly conducted surveillance of several homes.

The prosecutor's office put together a special task force two months ago, WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported.

The prosecutor's office says the 46-year-old Gomez, of Union City, and the 33-year-old Ponce, of Clifton, were arrested while they were burglarizing a home.

Gomez was being held on $100,000 bail and Ponce was being held on $250,000 bail. It wasn't immediately known if they had retained attorneys.

They are suspected in burglaries in River Edge, Fair Lawn, Franklin Lakes, Fairfield, Totowa, Belleville and Verona.
