Astros GM Says No Deal Reached For Gerrit Cole; Yankees Reportedly End Talks For Right-Hander
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Gerrit Cole isn't an Astro -- at least not yet -- but it looks like he won't be a Yankee, either.
After widely being considered the front-runner to acquire the Pirates right-hander, the Yankees have shut down trade talks for Cole, the New York Post reported Wednesday, citing an industry source.
There was a report earlier Wednesday from MLB Network's Jon Morosi that Pittsburgh had agreed to send the 27-year-old pitcher to Houston, but Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow later told the Houston Chronicle that he had "talked to several teams about possible trades" and "nothing is imminent."
Multiple other reports Wednesday said Houston and Pittsburgh were on the verge of a deal.
WFAN baseball insider Jon Heyman reported Wednesday that a mystery team is also in the mix for Cole.
If they are indeed out of the running for Cole, the Yankees must look elsewhere to add another arm to their rotation. They have reportedly discussed trading with the Detroit Tigers for Michael Fulmer, with the Arizona Diamondbacks for Patrick Corbin and with the Kansas City Royals for Danny Duffy. New York also has been linked in media reports to free agents Yu Darvish and Alex Cobb.

The Yankees' rotation currently includes Luis Severino, Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray and CC Sabathia.
