Authorities: Shooting At Illegal After-Hours Club Leaves 2 Dead In Paterson

PATERSON, N.J. (AP) -- Authorities say two men were shot and killed after an argument broke out at an illegal after-hours club in northern New Jersey.

Paterson police say about 30 people were at the club when the shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. Sunday in an old warehouse.

The two wounded men, 24-year-old Fernando Irby and 26-year-old Kashif Belfield,  were taken to hospitals where they died a short time later. But it wasn't immediately clear if the two city residents were involved in the dispute that sparked the shooting.

Authorities say they were working to determine what the dispute was about. But they declined to provide further details about the shooting, including what type of weapon was used.

There have now been 17 homicides in Paterson this year.
