KKK Fliers Found On Vehicles In Patchogue

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Suffolk County hate crimes unit has launched an investigation after Ku Klux Klan fliers were found on several vehicles in Patchogue overnight.

A passerby discovered the fliers on cars around 2 a.m. Thursday in a parking lot off Main Street.

The fliers glorify the KKK with the words "Our Race Is Our Nation," advertising themselves as the Loyal White Knights of the KKK, an off-shoot of the white supremacist group, CBS2's Janelle Burrell reported.

They call the distributing of the fliers at night as "knight riding," a recruitment method for the group, Burrell reported.

There were reports of similar incidents around the country before the election.

Fliers have been found in Patchogue in the past. Earlier this year, fliers were found scattered on lawns and tucked into cars on Baker Street and at the nearby Long Island Rail Road station.

In December of last year, fliers were also found on cars at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital and a nearby apartment complex.
