Route 17 Lanes In Paramus Reopen After Car Crash Knocks Down Utility Pole
PARAMUS, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A stretch of Route 17 in Paramus was completely shut down overnight after a single-car crash took out a utility pole.
There were no major injuries in the crash just south of Ridgewood Avenue, police said. The collision knocked down the pole, which caught fire.
PSE&G crews worked through the night to stabilize the suspended top portion of the pole and its electrical connections, WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported.
By 6:42 a.m., two lanes of the southbound highway had reopened.
When the pole snapped, a support cable broke free and launched a clear across the highway, shattering the window of a lighting store.
