Overnight Pothole Repair Coming To Rockland County Stretch Of NYS Thruway
NYACK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - The New York State Thruway is proving to be a rocky road through Rockland County.
As WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported, tire-swallowing craters and long, narrow trenches litter the highway.
The freeze and thaw cycle and snowplows have left potholes in their wake.
"I'm a defensive driver. I try to keep aware of those holes. As I said I'm afraid if I drive in I won't get out, they'll bury me," one driver joked.
"It's very, very dangerous, absolutely. And they need to rectify the situation ASAP," another man told Adams.
"Very dangerous because you have to weave in and out, in and out," said a woman. "You might get a ticket for drunk driving when you're not even drunk."
Road crews will conduct overnight repairs over the next two weeks. As a result, there will be some lane closures from Nyack to Spring Valley between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.
In the Town of Ramapo, drivers can report potholes via Twitter, @CSLPotholeAlert.
A Westchester state assemblyman has called for a statewide website for reporting potholes, Adams reported. In the interim, drivers can call 1-800-POTHOLE to report road damage.
