Service Resumes After Overhead Wire Troubles Slow NJ TRANSIT, LIRR Trains
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Trains are back on schedule after commuters faced delays into and out of New York City for about three hours Thursday morning due to downed overhead wires at Penn Station.
NJ TRANSIT spokesman John Durso Jr. says problems with Amtrak's overhead wires just outside of Penn cut off power to 12 tracks Thursday morning. One train was stopped and brought back to the station.
Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and Raritan Valley line trains were up to 45 minutes late heading into and leaving New York City between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
Midtown Direct trains resumed service into New York after being diverted for about 90 minutes to Hoboken.
The downed wires also caused problems for Long Island Rail Road commuters for a time Thursday morning, but service has been restored.
The railroad had said some trains faced delays and possible cancellations or were being diverted to Atlantic Terminal or Hunterspoint Avenue.
