One Person Dead, Another Hurt In Newark Shooting

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Authorities say two people were shot -- one fatally -- in Newark, NJ Monday afternoon.

Around 4:00 p.m. a 25-year-old male and his 23-year-old sister were shot while they were walking on the 100 block of Seymour Avenue.

The male victim, identified as Tony Branch of Newark, was pronounced dead at the scene according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Essex County Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.

The female victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

No arrests have been made. The Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force is conducting the ongoing investigation.
