Ohio Girls High School Basketball Team Loses 108-1

CLEVELAND (CBS Cleveland) -- Apparently there was no mercy rule.

An Ohio girls high school basketball team lost a game by 107 points on Wednesday night.

According to Cleveland.com, Gilmour Academy defeated Northeast Ohio College Prep 108-1 in a Division III North Ridgeville Sectional semifinal game.

"Our intent was to not run anything up, and we took steps to not disrespect our opponent," Gilmour coach Bob Beutel told Cleveland.com. "They went 0-for-28 from the field and 1-for-4 from the free-throw line. We let them shoot."

Beutel said he started putting junior-varsity players into the game in the first quarter.

"While the final score did not result in our favor, the entire I CAN SCHOOLS network of campuses is extremely proud of the comradery and sportsmanship that our team displayed during and after the game," Northeast Ohio College Prep said in a statement to Cleveland.com. "At Northeast Ohio College Preparatory School, our scholars are taught to embody respect, responsibility, and relentlessness. All three characteristics were on display yesterday. We faced an incredibly talented team, and we congratulate Gilmour Academy on their victory and pursuit of a championship."

Northeast Ohio College Prep finished 1-12 on the season. Cleveland.com ranks Gilmour No. 3 in its Top 25.
