Officials: Rikers Island Inmate Was Released By Mistake
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Disciplinary action may be forthcoming after a prisoner was released from Rikers Island by mistake.
Police on Monday put out a bulletin, announcing a manhunt for Kimmanie Waisome, 23.
Waisome is described as a black male standing 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 185 pounds.
The Department of Corrections told 1010 WINS that Waisome was mistakenly released from Riskers Island.
He was released from the Eric M. Taylor Center at the jail facility this past Tuesday, when he was actually supposed to be released on July 15 of next year, according to a New York Daily News report.
Waisome was serving a year at Rikers after he pleaded guilty to stealing a CD with an alleged accomplice armed with a gun in Manhattan back in February 2013, the newspaper reported.
The Corrections Department took three days to realize Waisome was released when he should not have been, the newspaper reported.
The department late Monday was looking into disciplinary action against the officers involved in Waisome's release, for a breach of procedure, officials told 1010 WINS.
