Obama To Visit Newark To Speak On Criminal Justice Reform
NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Get ready New Jersey -- President Barack Obama is coming to visit.
The White House said Tuesday that Obama will travel to Newark next week as part of his push for reforming the criminal justice system.
Obama will be joined by Sen. Cory Booker and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka to discuss the plight of formerly incarcerated individuals seeking to rejoin society, according to White House officials.
Obama's last visit to New Jersey was in May, when he came to Camden to make a speech about local police enforcement. The visit came after Obama's visit to Philadelphia, where he paid respect to those involved with the Amtrak train derailment that resulted in multiple deaths.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is currently running for the GOP presidential nomination.
