City Council Committee Approves Bills To Regulate Police Use Of Force
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The City Council Public Safety Committee on Tuesday approved a trio of bills aimed at police reform.
As WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported, the three measures all take aim at the NYPD's use of force.
Committee on Public Safety Chair Vanessa Gibson (D-16th) described the first piece of legislation, sponsored by Councilman Rory Lancman (D-24th).
"The bill will require the NYPD to provide a quarterly report on the number of use of force incidents disaggregated by the type of force used, the type of precinct or unit that the officer used force, and whether the officer was on or off duty when the force was used," Gibson said.
The bill also requires reporting injuries to police or civilians, and an annual accounting of excessive uses of force.
