NYPD Urges Jewish Community To Remain Vigilant Ahead Of Passover, Notes No Credible Threats
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - There is no credible terrorist threat ahead of the Jewish holiday of Passover, NYPD officials announced in a briefing on Tuesday.
But NYPD counterterrorism official John Miller told members of the Jewish community Tuesday they should remain aware nonetheless.
"No credible specific intelligence, as we learned from Boston or Times Square, doesn't mean that there isn't a threat. New York is always a target and always will be," said Miller.
Miller said the threat is now individuals that don't communicate their intentions.
"From an intelligence standpoint, that makes detection all the more difficult," he told reporters, including WCBS 880's Marla Diamond.
Miller and other officials gave the intelligence update at a pre-Passover briefing for religious and community leaders.
Police commissioner Bill Bratton urged members of the city's Jewish community to be the department's eyes and ears over the Passover holiday.
Passover is one of the most widely celebrated Jewish holidays. It begins at sundown on Monday, April 14 and ends Tuesday, April 22.
In the briefing, NYPD Director of Intelligence Analysis Rebecca Weiner detailed terrorist organizations' media and recruitment campaigns.
She said images of New York City buildings and traffic scenes are often displayed in propaganda material.
