NYPD searching for suspect in rock attack at Brooklyn subway station

Victim speaks out about attack at Brooklyn subway station

NEW YORK -- A Brooklyn man is recovering after someone with a rock randomly attacked him on a subway platform early Saturday morning.

As CBS2's Kevin Rincon reported Sunday, the suspect is still on the loose.

The victim, 64-year-old Intazar Dar, said he lost something more valuable than any possessions or money; he lost his sense of safety. He has taken the same train to and from work for more than a quarter of a century, and now he's hoping the person who assaulted him is brought to justice.

"I can't eat because the bone was hurting me really badly," Dar said.

Describing his injuries and showing the staples for the wound on his head, Dar said he is still shaken up by what happened.

He said he was taking the Q train home from work early Saturday morning. Police said it was just after midnight when he was assaulted.

"When I just get out the door, right away he come up behind me. He come up behind me angry, and I said, 'Why you follow me? Why you come from behind me?'" Dar said. "I was really scared when he hit me, stone to my head."

He said the suspect jumped down onto the tracks, grabbed rocks in each hand, and then started punching him.

Dar was hit on the side of the head several times. As he started bleeding, the suspect ran off. He was seen on surveillance video shirtless.

Dar was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

"Thank God I'm safe and at home with my family, but this is too much," Dar said.

He said he has lived in New York City for 40 years and that he has taken the Q train for 26. He said he has never felt unsafe until now.

Dar said he is hoping more police visibility will help prevent other attacks.

"They need now the NYPD in the station, or the train, because when the police guys are inside we feel safe and secure," Dar said.

He said he will continue his recovery for the next couple of weeks, but added the moment he is cleared to go back to work, he intends to do so.
