NYPD Officers Hailed As Heroes After Rescuing Man Who Fell Onto Subway Tracks

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Three NYPD officers are being hailed as heroes after police said they rescued a man from the path of an oncoming subway train after he fell onto the tracks.

It happened at the Times Square station around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Lt. William Moore and Officers Anthony Tufano and Richard Aponte had just finished doing bag checks when they saw a large crowd forming and heard a woman yelling that someone had fallen onto the tracks, police said.

They made their way through the crowd and to the front of the platform where they saw there was an oncoming train.

As Officer Aponte used his flashlight to signal to the train conductor to slow down, Lt. Moore and Officer Tufano grabbed the man who had fallen onto the tracks and pulled him up, police said.

It's unclear why the man fell and police said he refused any medical attention.
