NYPD officer taken to hospital after hit-and-run in Manhattan
NEW YORK -- An NYPD officer was hospitalized in stable condition on Tuesday night after being run over while conducting a vehicle stop.
It happened just after 6 p.m. near Exit 24 between the Harlem River Drive and the George Washington Bridge in Washington Heights.
The officer stopped a red Toyota that was believed to be stolen. The driver of the car took off, hitting the officer and causing traffic backups at the bridge.
The car was found abandoned miles away in Inwood.
No arrests have been made.
