NYPD Eliminates Homeless Outreach And Shelter Security Unit

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD is eliminating a team dedicated to assisting the homeless.

At midnight, the Homeless Outreach and Shelter Security Unit will no longer exist.

Ninety-two police officers, three detectives and 25 sergeant supervisors will now be assigned new roles.

Several medical nurses were also part of the unit.

They have been offered positions with the city Department of Health.
