NYPD: Group Lighting Fireworks In Queens Attacked Man Walking Dog When He Complained About Noise
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NYPD is trying to identify three people who were allegedly lighting fireworks in Queens and assaulted a man who complained about the noise.
It happened at the corner of 75th Street and Juniper Boulevard North in Middle Village near Juniper Valley Park on July 23 around 10 p.m.
According to police, the 44-year-old victim was walking his dog when he saw the group lighting fireworks and screaming.
The man and the group got into an argument that escalated. The group kicked and punched the man before he was able to get away, police said.
The man refused medical attention, but reportedly suffered cuts and bruising.
Neighbors told CBS2's Kiran Dhillon they were shaken up by the incident.
"It was shocking first, then I was very upset, actually. I really looked into deeper and deeper who could have done that," Mariola Mell said. "I hope they catch those little kids, and they get what they deserve."
"It's really heartbreaking. I think that, where are those kids' parents? Why are they acting that way? Someone should tell them something," one woman said.
"Saddening, saddening. A lot of things now in New York, the crime and all that stuff," one man said. "You just hope that it doesn't happen again."
Many people who visit the park want to see more police patrols.
"I think they should patrol it, especially in the evening time. Maybe just one car going around the park and seeing what's going on," Mell said.
"Overall, I still do feel safe, but it is something concerning, especially, like, at night," one woman said. "It does make you think twice, like maybe not wearing headphones or something."
