NYPD Det. Troy Patterson dies more than 30 years after being shot in Brooklyn
NEW YORK -- An NYPD detective who was shot 33 years ago during a robbery has died.
Officers lined the streets outside Erskine Funeral Home in Brooklyn on Monday afternoon for a dignified transfer for Det. Troy Patterson.
He had been in a vegetative state since the shooting in January of 1990.

Police say he was washing his car on a street in Brooklyn, when three men demanded money. One of the robbers, who was 15 years old, shot Patterson.
Patterson was just 27 at the time. He was promoted to detective in 2016.
In 1990, Detective Troy Patterson was shot during a robbery in Brooklyn, and catastrophically injured. Last night, Detective Patterson passed away.

The three suspects all served prison time and have since been released.
