14-year-old shot in the leg near Brooklyn school

NEW YORK -- Gunfire outside of a Brooklyn school on Monday afternoon left a student wounded.

The shooting happened just after dismissal near Boys and Girls High School in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

The teenager was shot in the leg and sources told CBS2's Ali Bauman he heard the gunshots and noticed the wound, but did not see the shooter.

The 14-year-old was near a shopping area at Fulton Street and Utica Avenue at around 2:45 p.m. Bystanders said they heard multiple shots.

"All you heard was pow, pow, pow, pow. There were so many people. Everybody just ran. Everybody just ran," area resident Latoya Harper said. "A lot of kids from school here, and it's very unsafe. They ducked down. They're looking for safety."

The teenager is expected to recover.

No arrests have been made.

Boys and Girls High School has 1,500 students and does use metal detectors at the entrances, but the Department of Education said the shooting happened off the school's campus and is not school related.
