Have Your Cake And Eat It Too

Date: Tuesday, October 14

Treat yourself to a plate of dessert tonight, or two. Tuesday, October 14th is National Dessert Day and the Dominique Ansel Bakery is a great place to celebrate the holiday. The Dominique Ansel Bakery is regarded as one of the best in the city and they have the menu to back it up. One dish you'll definitely want to try is their "Mini-Me Cake" (Verne Troyer not included). The cake is made of four-layers of rich dark chocolate separated by a light chocolate cream and small meringue chips adding a textural contrast on top. Dominique Ansel is also the creator of the world famous cronut, a crossiant-doughnut hybrid made of laminated dough fried in canola oil then sugared, fill and glazed. The bakery is open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday and you can find a full menu on their website.

Enjoy Live Sax At Manolo Tapas

Date: Wednesday, October 15

Unwind while listening to some live sax playing this Wednesday at Manolo Tapas located at 4165 Broadway. This Latin and Spanish style restaurant brings in live sax players every Wednesday to satisfy your ears while you satisfy your appetite. Manolo Tapas' offers smaller portions in their meals but the prices are very reasonable. With tasty options like the Entrecot Manolo (Grilled angus NY shell steak with seasonal vegetables and Puente Nuevo potatoes) you'll be certain to leave with a happy stomach. The live music begins at 7:00 p.m. and doesn't stop until the restaurant closes at 11:00 p.m.

Laugh With NYC's Own; Amy Schumer

Date: Friday, October 17

New York's very own, Amy Schumer is coming to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark this Friday. Schumer began her stand-up career in 2004 and by 2010 she already had her own half hour special on Comedy Central Presents. Since then she has gone onto major television success with roles on 30 Rock, Louie, Girls and even her own show titled, Inside Amy Schumer. The show begins at 8:00 p.m. and tickets start online at $37.

Take The Kids For A Spooky Sleepover

Date: Saturday, October 18

The annual Halloween Sleepover at the American Museum of Natural History returns this Saturday. At closing time the doors will close, the lights will dim and all those in attendance will be given flashlights to take with them on a variety of museum adventures. These sleepover events take place every few weekends but on the 18th the sleepover is all about All Hollow's Eve. The night will be filled with costume contests, trick-or-treating and spooky snacks for all! In addition to the Halloween-inspired events museum goers will also get to explore all the exhibits that normally make-up an American Museum of Natural History Sleepover. Admission is $145 a person and the event begins at 6:00 p.m.

See The Berenstain Bears Live

Date: Sunday, October 19

Everyone's favorite family of bears comes to life this Sunday at the Marjorie S. Deane Theatre on W. 64th Street when the Berenstain Bears perform live in "Family Matter, The Musical." The show is produced by Matt Murphy Productions and features an original score by Michael Borton and a book by Borton and Michael Slade. After the show the kids will be treated to a free dance party, face painting and photos with the Berenstain Bears themselves. The show starts at 2:00 p.m. and tickets cost between $34 and $59.
