Rain chance returns to parts of NYC area Sunday. Here's the First Alert Forecast.

First Alert Forecast: Big temperature spread Sunday in New York - 10/12/24

Highs in the 70s with lots of sunshine made for a glorious Saturday.

Saturday night, skies won't be as pristine-looking due to an increase in cloud cover. Lows will range from the mid 50s in the city to the upper 30s north and west.

Rain chance Sunday in parts of Tri-State Area

Heading into Sunday, a warm front will split the region into two different seasons. North of the city, clouds and rounds of showers will keep highs cool and fall like, in the mid to upper 50s. South of the city, it will feel more like late summer with highs reaching the low 80s in some spots, under mostly sunny skies.

A more widespread chance of rain returns Sunday night into Monday morning, and a thunderstorm or two is possible as well. Just like the temperatures, rainfall totals will vary greatly, from nothing in our southern counties to possibly over an inch in our northern counties.

Another dry streak has started in the city:  12 days and counting. Any rain would be beneficial, with the deficit running well over 4 inches now.

After the showers, the coolest air of the season moves in Monday night and will last through the week.

Rare comet visible

Beginning this weekend, a comet that was just discovered last year will be visible in the night sky. The comet, named Tsuchishan ATLAS, only comes within the vicinity of Earth once every 80,000 years. For those wanting to catch a glimpse of this celestial rarity, look to the western sky. It may be the brightest right after sunset, but as long as skies are clear, the comet should be visible all night. If you miss it this weekend, there will still be a chance to view it through Oct. 26, however with each passing day, it will get higher in the sky and become dimmer, making it more difficult to view.
