First Alert Weather: Yellow Alert for possibly severe thunderstorms

NEW YORK - Severe thunderstorms moved through New York City and the surrounding area Thursday.

The First Alert Weather Team issued a Yellow Alert Thursday morning, but it has since expired. Get the latest forecast, live radar and weather alerts.

After a wild morning filled with damaging storms that brought hail, ferocious winds, and heavy rain, conditions have since improved dramatically.

Here's a breakdown of what to expect heading into the holiday weekend:

It was a very active morning with numerous thunderstorms developing across the region, which prompted severe thunderstorm warnings.

There have been a few reports of damage as well. The humid airmass in place certainly gave these storms fuel to feed off.

For the remainder of Thusday, a few residual showers are possible, but thankfully the worst is now behind us. Temps should reach the upper 70s to near 80, while humidity levels will remain elevated.

As we progress into Thursday night, the chance of showers lingers. Lows will dip into the low and mid 60s, and it will remain muggy.

Friday starts off with clouds and some showers, mainly south of the city. Then, sunshine and lower humidity return for the afternoon. Highs will reach the low and mid 80s.

As of now, the holiday weekend is looking like a mixed bag. While there is a chance of rain on Saturday, Sunday is looking dry. However, a steady rain is looking likely for Memorial Day. Temps will top out between 70-80 throughout the period.
