Suspect in New York City stabbing spree arraigned on attempted murder charges

Suspect in Queens multiple stabbings arraigned Friday

NEW YORK -- The man accused of multiple stabbings across Queens was arraigned in court Friday.

Jermain Rigueur, 27, was walked out of the 113th precinct and charged with multiple attempted murder charges Friday.

Rigueur is accused of stabbing at least four people in Springfield Gardens and Jamaica over the past nine days.

He pled not guilty to 19 counts, including attempted murder.

"We have good video to show these attempted murders were caught," Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said. "We look forward to holding him accountable for these crimes."

Rigueur was placed in protective custody and on suicide watch while a psychiatric evaluation is conducted.

"Thank God we have no one who lost his or her life, but it did send real fears throughout our city," Mayor Eric Adams said Thursday. "Didn't appear as if he was looking to stop anytime soon."

High praise for quick arrest of stabbing spree suspect

Authorities said that Rigueur just moved to Queens from Suffolk County, Long Island, and was living with roommates in Springfield Gardens.

Investigators are looking into a sixth stabbing, which occurred on a J train in Brooklyn, that Rigueur may be responsible for. He has not yet been charged in connection.

Detectives said Rigueur wore a lanyard that identified him as a greeter at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn.
