NYC's First Lady Tours Sandy-Damaged Homes Rebuilt With Help From City Program
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- New York City's first lady took time on Wednesday to tour homes that were repaired through a program created to help victims of Superstorm Sandy.
As WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reported, Maddy Eddy was unable to get federal aid to repair her home on Beach 28th Street after Sandy, and that's where the city stepped in.
On Wednesday, first lady Chirlane McCray stopped by Eddy's home to mark the end of that program.
"We were able to help 500 families and for those who want a return, we're going to do our best to help them," McCray said.
The Mayor's Fund to Advance New York City, the Red Cross, JP Morgan Chase and the Robinhood Foundation provided $20 million to fix 501 homes through the Neighborhood Revitalization New York City Home Repair Program.
For those still struggling, Eddy had a message: "There is light at the end of the tunnel and I found the light."
