NYC Man Sentenced 19 Years To Life For Stabbing Wife To Death

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New York City man has been given 19 years to life in prison for stabbing his estranged wife to death in a parked SUV in 2008.

Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance announced the sentence for William Davila on Thursday.

The 48-year-old Davila pleaded guilty last month to second-degree murder. His lawyer didn't return a message seeking comment.

In May 2008, the body of 44-year-old Leonida Nunez Davila was found in a parked SUV in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood with multiple stab wounds to her throat and chest.

Prosecutors say an order of protection against Davila was found in the car, next to her body.

"The death of Leonida Davila is another harrowing example of how quickly domestic violence can turn fatal," Vance said in a news release. "Not only did this defendant brutally kill Ms. Davila, but he fled the scene, leaving her body in a parked car to be found by strangers."

Davila was arrested after surrendering to police in the Bronx two days after his wife's body was found.
