Push On For Hearing Loops To Transmit Audio At City Meetings
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A bill has been introduced in the New York City Council that would make it easier for those with severe hearing loss to hear.
As WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported, Councilwoman Helen Rosenthal (D-6th) is sponsoring the measure to require hearing loops.
The devices transmit audio to hearing aids at all public hearings.
Jerry Bergman is an advocate with severe to profound hearing loss.
"Hearing loops are permanent installations," Bergman said. "Once installed they need virtually no maintenance and I can walk into a room or a meeting hall and simply push a button on my hearing aid and my cochlear implant to activate telecoils and nobody would know that I have a hearing loss, and I would hear a beautiful signal."
Bergman said in his life, hearing looks would make a world of difference.
