NYC Food Truck Lunch: Kafta Platter From Bread & Olives

There are a few food trucks in NYC serving Middle Eastern food, and a few days ago, we went to Bread & Olives, a Lebanese food truck.

Bread & Olives has a good selection of dishes on their menu, and we decided to order the kafta platter for $10. You can also get a kafta sandwich for $8.

Kafta is ground beef and it can be shaped into a ball, a patty, or torpedo-shaped, as they did here. It was about  6" long, split length-wise and grilled.

The meat was seasoned with onions, parsley, and a few other spices. It was tasty. And there was plenty of meat in the platter.

The platter included a mayo-based white sauce that was on the sweet side. Hot sauce was also offered, which was medium-hot and had a pronounced tabasco flavor.

The kafta was placed over a large serving of rice, which was plump and moist.

The platter came with a side of hummus and a piece of pita bread for dipping. The hummus was smooth and creamy, and had a little pool of olive oil in the middle. The hummus had a lemony undertone, but we wish there was another piece of pita bread to finish off the hummus.

A nice side salad was also included, a good way to end the meal.

The Bread & Olives truck makes the rounds of various business areas for lunch. You can find them on Twitter here, but we cannot find them on Facebook or on a website. We found them on 46th St just east of 6th Ave, where several food trucks park each weekday.
