NYC child abduction suspect killed in crash fleeing officers, police say
NEW YORK -- A man suspected of abducting a 9-year-old girl and sexually assaulting her in New York City is dead after he crashed his car during a police pursuit, officials said.
Friday afternoon, police in Queens said Wayne Noel, 64, was driving a gray Honda Civic that matched the description of the car the girl was taken and assaulted in.
Surveillance video shows suspect crashing car into Jeep
After officers tried to pull him over, surveillance video shows the Honda running a stop sign on 212th Street and T-boning a red Jeep at the intersection with 90th Avenue in Queens Village. Officers are seen pulling up to the scene about 15 seconds later.
"The cops were telling the guy 'Show me your hands, show me your hands,' and then they were trying to pull him out. They were trying to give him CPR, like almost for five minutes. No response. And then they took him to the EMS," a man who saw the crash said.
Noel was taken to hospital and pronounced dead. Authorities later said witnesses and video helped confirm he was the suspect they were looking for.
The driver of the Jeep suffered minor injuries.
Suspect forced girl into his car outside supermarket, police say
NYPD had launched the all-out search Thursday night after a 9-year-old girl was separated from her grandmother at the Key Food supermarket a few blocks away on Jamaica Avenue.
Investigators believe the girl was taken when her grandmother went to use the bathroom and left her alone.
"The subject approached our very vulnerable survivor and makes a statement to the effect 'Get in front of me.' Then grabs her hair and forcefully leads her outside the store. The subject then pushes her inside of his own vehicle and drives to a nearby area and sexually assaults this young survivor. That assault is interrupted by a good Samaritan who was swiftly passing by," said Assistant Police Chief Jason Savino.
Police said Noel drove back to the Key Food, sexually assaulted the girl again, then left her on the sidewalk and drove away.
"I'm appalled because I can't see this good-looking tall gentleman doing this to a 9-year-old," said Michelle Sanders, Noel's neighbor.
"We were praying for the little girl that was abducted and her family that they find solace," said Saiyad Ali, who witnessed the car crash Friday.
Noel was a married Queens resident and had four prior arrests, police said.
