NYC, Brookfield Properties Reach Agreement To Bring Living Wage Jobs To Hudson Yards
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – After months of tough negotiations, New York City and Brookfield Properties have reached a living wage agreement to bring thousands of jobs at a tower planned for Ninth Avenue and 33rd Street in the Hudson Yards District.
The project at One Manhattan West will generate jobs in construction, office and retail and all are subject to the city's new living wage of $13.30 an hour without benefits and $11.90 with benefits, WCBS 880's Rich Lamb reported.
"The new executive order includes building tenants and includes the folks who work on construction. It includes the folks who work in building services, maintenance, office workers, everyone," mayor spokesman Wiley Norvell said, "and especially in a project like this more than 10,000 jobs total are created because of this project, including hundreds in retail that are often minimum wage and low wage jobs. Everyone in this building regardless of where they work is going to be paid a living wage.
Norvell said the living wage will be more than $15 an hour by the time the project opens in 2020.
