More Than 1,500 Flights Canceled At Area Airports, As Storm Creates Headaches For Travelers
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Nor'easter slamming the Tri-State Friday grounded flights at LaGuardia Airport and forced airlines to cancel hundreds of flights at other area airports.
More than 1,500 flights at the three major airports were grounded.
Arrivals or departures at LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International Airport were both halted temporarily due to storm conditions. They've since reopened - but far fewer flights are leaving due to numerous cancellations.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said 729 flights had been canceled at LaGuardia, 547 at Kennedy, and 509 at Newark.
The Port Authority is urging travelers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

Delta, Southwest, JetBlue and American Airlines were allowing travelers to change their Friday and Saturday flights ahead of time to avoid delays and cancellations.
AirTran Newark service at Newark Airport was also suspended and replaced by shuttle buses Friday due to the concern over high winds.
The Nor'easter was also causing trouble on the rails. Amtrak suspended service between Boston and Washington, DC due to downed trees.
