Man Punched NJ TRANSIT Train Conductor When Asked For Ticket, Police Say
KEARNY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- NJ TRANSIT police arrested a man over the weekend after he allegedly punched a train conductor who asked him for a ticket.
Peer Fikhman, 22, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a conductor and theft of services for non-payment of a fare in the Sunday afternoon incident, NJ TRANSIT police said.
Around 2:40 p.m. Sunday, Fikhman got on the train at the Radburn station and hid in a restroom to avoid the conductor collecting tickets, police said.
Fikhman exited the restroom after 25 minutes and punched the conductor in the face when he was asked for a ticket, police said.
NJ TRANSIT police were called to the scene, and Fikhman was arrested and charged, police said. The conductor had a visible mark on his face, but refused medical attention, police said.
Fikhman, an Israeli citizen, was taken to the Hudson County Jail, police said. He was being held on $5,000 bail Monday.
If convicted, Fikhman could be sentenced to up to six years in prison and fines of up to $7,500.
