NJ Magnet School Teacher Accused Of Sending Student Sexually Explicit Emails

HACKENSACK, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A longtime teacher at a northern New Jersey magnet high school stands accused of sending sexually explicit emails to a 16-year-old female student.

Bergen County prosecutors say 65-year-old Donald DeWitt, of Warwick, New York, was arrested Monday and charged with attempted sexual assault, child endangerment and criminal sexual contact. His bail was set at $300,000 cash, and it wasn't known Tuesday if he has retained a lawyer.

Prosecutors say the girl's sister discovered the emails and told their mother, who contacted her local police department. Officials there then notified county prosecutors.

DeWitt has been a full-time staffer at Bergen County Academies since 1992 and teaches numerous courses.
