N.J. Fan Sues NFL Over Super Bowl Ticket Availability
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The NFL is being hauled into court by a football fan who claims the distribution of Super Bowl XLVIII tickets is illegal.
As WCBS 880's Peter Haskell reported Tuesday, the Super Bowl is always one of the toughest tickets to get your hands on, and the NFL tightly controls their distribution.
A New Jersey man has filed a class-action lawsuit in federal court, arguing the league's handling of the tickets is illegal.
Josh Finkelman, of New Brunswick, contends the league's ticketing policy is a violation of the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act.
"They make 1 percent of the tickets available to the public and the New Jersey law requires 95 percent to be made available," attorney Bruce Nagel told Haskell.
Nagel said he's looking for triple the difference between face value and the going rate on the secondary market.
"So you're talking hundreds of millions of dollars," Nagel said.
Finkelman bought two tickets to the game for $4,000, well above face value, his lawyer said.
The NFL has so far not commented on the lawsuit.
Super Bowl XLVIII will kick off at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford on Feb. 2.
