Wind Takes Down Multiple Trees In Newark; 1 Tree Leaves 3 Injured

NEWARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A man and woman and a 6-year-old girl were injured Sunday morning when a tree came down into a home in Newark.

The tree fell through a home on North 12th Street in Newark, leaving the 28-year-old man, the 60-year-old woman and the girl injured, Newark officials said.

The incident happened amid dangerous winds that caused serious damage around the Tri-State Area.

Elsewhere in Newark, a tree also fell onto the street at 341 Summer Ave., damaging a street light and a parked car.

At 147 Astor St. in Newark, a large tree also came down in the street.

On Palm Street in Newark, a falling tree barely missed a minivan. On South Orange Avenue, firefighters used chainsaws to clear fallen limbs and branches broken by high winds.

Blasting winds made for potentially dangerous conditions around the area. Wind gusts hit 45 mph in Central Park, 44 in White Plains and Greenwich, Connecticut, and 39 in Belmar, CBS2's Vanessa Murdock reported.

Wind chills were making it feel like 24 degrees in the city, 23 in Tenafly, 16 in Speonk, and a January-worthy 7 degrees in Liberty.

A high wind warning was in effect for the entire Tri-State Area until 2 p.m. Sunday.
